EV Charging Parking Extension

The project involves the extension of an existing parking yard to create a dedicated parking area for electric vehicle charging. EDS delivered the full multi-discipline design scope across HOAI Leistungsphasen 3 and 5, covering MV electrical infrastructure and LV power distribution for the EV charging stations, external lighting design with supporting calculations, and landscape model coordination for the civil works. Rainwater drainage was designed and coordinated to integrate with the extended parking area, while BIM modelling ensured full interdisciplinary coordination across all design packages. The main challenge was to integrate the new EV charging infrastructure into the existing site while maintaining reliable power supply, safe cable routing, proper lighting levels, coordinated drainage, and buildable external works.

Consulate Building — Execution Design, Frankfurt

A Frankfurt consulate building required full execution design across all building services disciplines under HOAI Leistungsphase 5 — the most detailed and construction-critical stage of German engineering delivery. EDS produced execution design for normal and emergency power, lighting and distribution boards, alongside a central BMS platform integrating HVAC, lighting and power monitoring for building-wide supervision. Fire alarm design covered detailed layouts, zone planning and all interfaces to doors, lifts and ventilation — a complex coordination task in a high-security building with strict access and safety requirements. ICT and security scope encompassed structured cabling, access control and CCTV, while BOS systems provided the infrastructure for reliable emergency-services communication. All five disciplines were delivered to construction-issue standard in full coordination with the security and operational brief.

6 MW Greenfield Data Center — Berlin

A medium-scale greenfield data center for a 6 MW IT load in Berlin called for full engineering design from concept through permit under HOAI Leistungsphasen 1–4. EDS delivered an electrical systems design tailored to the facility's IT load, covering MV supply, UPS topology, LV distribution and standby power. The BMS scope provided centralised supervision of power distribution, cooling plant and building functions. Fire alarm, ICT and security systems were designed as an integrated package to achieve a secure, compliant facility, with BOS systems rounding out a complete multi-discipline submission. Each system was designed to the same standard applied to larger facilities and fully coordinated for authority review.

25 MW Greenfield Data Center — Frankfurt

A new 25 MW IT data center required complete multi-discipline engineering from concept through to building permit, delivered under HOAI Leistungsphasen 1–4. EDS designed the complete electrical infrastructure — MV intake, UPS and standby power architecture, LV distribution and lighting — together with an integrated BMS for centralised monitoring and control of power, cooling and building functions. Fire alarm design was developed in close coordination with data-center safety and emergency shutdown concepts. ICT and security systems addressed structured cabling, access control and surveillance, while BOS infrastructure was designed to meet authority requirements for emergency-services communication. All five disciplines were coordinated into a single coherent permit package for the Frankfurt building authority process.

Permanent Load Concept — Data Center, Frankfurt

Reliable testing of a data center's electrical infrastructure depends on a permanent load strategy that is fully integrated with the facility's distribution architecture. EDS developed this concept for a Frankfurt brownfield data center from Stage 1 through Stage 4, beginning with a load strategy that defines how permanent load banks support system reliability testing across all redundant paths. Load bank positions were selected and laid out to minimise impact on operational floor space while maintaining full access for testing and maintenance. Busbar routing and connection concepts were developed for all load bank feeds, and the complete scope — drawings, calculations and single-line diagrams — was updated to incorporate the new permanent load infrastructure into the facility's engineering record.

UPS System Replacement — Live Data Center, Frankfurt

Replacing UPS systems and battery banks in a fully operational data center requires meticulous coordination to eliminate any risk to live loads. EDS managed this brownfield upgrade from Stage 1 through Stage 4, developing a replacement strategy that sequenced equipment removal, new installation and battery commissioning around the facility's operational constraints. Electrical calculations were updated to reflect the new UPS capacities and protection settings across the affected distribution boards. The BIM model and all associated drawings were revised to as-built accuracy, providing the client with a reliable record for future maintenance and audit. Vendor coordination and equipment selection were handled by EDS to ensure the new systems matched the existing infrastructure topology and met the facility's power quality and autonomy requirements.

Office Electrical Upgrade — Data Center Campus, Frankfurt

A key data center client required an upgrade of the electrical systems serving its on-campus office areas, within the constraints of an operating facility where all works had to be coordinated with active data center operations. EDS delivered the full scope across Stage 1 to Stage 4: assessing the existing electrical infrastructure, designing the upgraded distribution systems for the office areas, coordinating with the building's existing systems to avoid conflicts, and producing updated documentation for ongoing operations and future modifications. The project reflects the precise, well-coordinated electrical engineering that live data center environments demand.
